The Hotel Bar Rule

Their rule is simple: she may flirt, she may choose, and she decides exactly how much her husband gets to know.

Evan and Sophie had one rule about the hotel bar.

Nothing happened by accident.

They had been married eleven years. The fantasy had existed for three of them, first as a joke, then as something admitted in bed, then as a conversation that lasted months before either was willing to make it real.

Tonight was the first time.

Sophie sat at the bar in a black dress while Evan occupied a table near the back.

He could see her.

She could see him.

That was part of it.

The other part was choice.

Hers.

A man named Daniel approached twenty minutes later.

Evan did not hear the opening line. He saw Sophie smile, saw Daniel take the stool beside her, saw the bartender pour another drink.

His pulse accelerated.

Sophie glanced towards him once.

Not for permission.

For acknowledgement.

Evan lifted his glass.

She turned back to Daniel.

They talked for half an hour.

Daniel was perhaps forty. Sophie was thirty-nine. Evan knew nothing else about him except that he made his wife laugh twice and touched her elbow once.

The touch was enough to make Evan hard beneath the table.

His phone buzzed.

Sophie: STILL GOOD?

Evan: YES.

A minute later:

Sophie: I LIKE HIM.

Evan stared at the words.

They had agreed that either could end the game instantly.

He typed:

GOOD.

Sophie read it and put her phone away.

Ten minutes later she stood.

Daniel stood too.

Sophie walked across the bar to Evan alone.

“You okay?” she asked.

“Yes.”

“Say more than yes.”

“I’m jealous.”

She waited.

“And incredibly turned on.”

Her smile was small.

“Me too.”

“What happens now?”

“I’m going upstairs with him.”

Evan’s stomach tightened.

“Our room?”

“No. His.”

That had been another rule.

Their room remained theirs.

Sophie leaned down and kissed Evan.

“If I change my mind, I leave. If I want you, I call. If I don’t call, you wait.”

“I know.”

“Still yes?”

“Yes.”

She kissed him again.

Then she walked back to Daniel.

Evan watched them leave together.

Waiting was the hardest part.

He returned to their room and sat on the edge of the bed.

His imagination became viciously specific.

Was Daniel kissing her already?

Was she undressing him?

Had she told him about Evan?

They had agreed she could.

His phone remained silent.

Twenty-two minutes.

Thirty-one.

Forty-seven.

At fifty-three minutes, a message appeared.

Sophie: YOU AWAKE?

Evan laughed aloud.

Evan: OBVIOUSLY.

Sophie: COME TO 1214. KNOCK ONCE.

He stood so quickly he nearly dropped the phone.

Room 1214 was one floor above.

Evan knocked once.

Sophie opened the door wearing only the black dress, now unzipped halfway down her back.

Her lipstick was gone.

Her hair was not how she had left it.

Evan looked past her.

Daniel sat on the edge of the bed in trousers and an open shirt.

Sophie touched Evan’s chest.

“You can still leave.”

“I don’t want to.”

She turned to Daniel.

“This is Evan.”

Daniel stood and offered his hand.

The normality of the handshake nearly broke Evan’s brain.

“Hi.”

“Hi.”

Sophie laughed softly.

“You two are adorable.”

Then she kissed Daniel in front of him.

Not tentatively.

Daniel put a hand around her waist and pulled her close. Sophie opened her mouth to him.

Evan watched.

Jealousy landed hot in his chest.

So did desire.

Sophie broke the kiss and looked directly at her husband.

“Still good?”

“Yes.”

She slipped the dress from her shoulders.

It fell to the carpet.

She was naked underneath.

Evan exhaled.

Daniel kissed her neck and cupped one breast. Sophie leaned back against him, eyes still on Evan.

“This what you wanted?” she asked.

“Yes.”

“Then watch.”

Daniel guided her to the bed.

Evan sat in the chair near the window.

He watched another man kiss his wife’s breasts.

Watched Sophie spread her legs.

Watched Daniel kneel between them.

The first sound Sophie made was familiar.

That somehow made it worse.

Better.

Both.

Evan gripped the arms of the chair.

Sophie reached down and threaded her fingers through Daniel’s hair while he used his mouth on her.

Her eyes closed.

Then opened.

Found Evan.

She smiled.

Evan unfastened his trousers.

Sophie saw.

“Go on,” she said.

He took his cock out and wrapped his hand around it.

Daniel looked over once, checking.

Evan nodded.

Then Daniel returned his attention to Sophie.

When she came, her back arched and she swore loudly enough that Evan felt it in his chest.

Daniel stood and removed the rest of his clothes.

Sophie looked at Evan.

“This is the last check.”

Evan understood.

They had discussed penetration as the threshold that mattered most.

“Yes,” he said.

Daniel put on a condom.

Sophie rolled onto her back and pulled him down.

Evan watched Daniel enter his wife.

The jealousy was enormous.

So was the thrill.

Sophie’s mouth opened.

Daniel moved slowly until she gripped his hips and told him, “Harder.”

He obeyed.

Evan stroked himself while he watched.

Sophie looked at him over Daniel’s shoulder.

Her expression was not apologetic.

That was part of what Evan loved about it.

She was enjoying herself completely.

Not performing regret for his comfort.

Daniel fucked her harder.

Sophie came again, this time with her face turned towards Evan.

Evan came into his own hand seconds later.

Afterwards, Daniel went to shower.

Sophie crossed the room naked and crouched in front of Evan.

“Well?”

Evan touched her face.

“That was a lot.”

“Bad lot?”

“No.”

“Good lot?”

“Yes.”

She kissed him.

“Jealous?”

“Very.”

“Still love me?”

He laughed.

“Idiot.”

“That’s not an answer.”

He kissed her again.

“Yes.”

Sophie stood and reached for her dress.

“Come on.”

“Where?”

“Our room.”

Evan looked towards the bathroom.

“And Daniel?”

“He knows the rule.”

Their room remained theirs.

Sophie took Evan’s hand.

This time, he understood why.
